The Prepare 2 Progress sessions with your Progress Coach will include mock interviews, CV writing and developing skills such as presentation practice. Your Progress Coach can also connect you with the support available from the University of Huddersfield's Careers Service.

There are skills and CV development opportunities throughout the year, such as volunteering with the University's Sustainability Team, opportunities to become a Student Digital Leader, Class Rep, Academic Buddy, and Progression Champion. You will also have the opportunity to be involved in Be Social - which is our events programme, as well as Speak Up - our speaking club run with the aim of developing students' confidence.

University of Huddersfield degree courses will offer what you need to become a confident, employable graduate. With many courses including industry placements and specialist careers advisers for international students, you’ll develop real-world skills and build your CV.

The University has a team of careers advisers. You’ll find them on campus and from day one you’ll have access to one-to-one guidance, CV checking and interview techniques. You can also join workshops and events, covering everything from graduate recruitment, developing your CV, to how to develop your networks.

The University of Huddersfield is among the UK’s top providers of ‘sandwich’ courses, which are developed in conjunction with global employers and industry. This means you may have the chance to complete a 12-month paid work placement as part of your degree. This is a great way to build your CV, develop real-world skills and apply what you’ve learnt at university to the workplace.

Career-focused degrees, many offering internships and work placements, will equip you with real world skills to prepare you for a career after graduation. All of Huddersfield students have the opportunity to undertake professional work experience during their studies, with over 2,000 students completing work placements at British and international businesses every year.

Your right to work in the UK

You'll also have the opportunity to build up work experience by taking up part-time employment or a work placement during your studies. Your Student visa allows you to work up to 20 hours a week, so you can gain career skills alongside your studies. Find out more about working rights as part your visa.

Please note that main focus of your time in the UK should be your studies, and a requirement of your Student visa is a 100% attendance rate for your classes at the International Study Centre. By not attending all of your classes, you risk losing your Student visa and your right to study and work in the UK.

Work after study

After graduating, you will have the skills needed to start your international career with opportunities available all over the world. In the UK, you can access the Graduate Immigration Route – a 2-year post-study work visa for international students graduating from UK universities. You can find out more information on this on our visa page.

Lalia, Progress Coach

“We have an open door policy to welcome all of our students. Our priority is our students' wellbeing and their success.

At the Centre, our team makes sure all our students get all the support they need, preparing them for the real world by offering weekly sessions where they can develop employability skills, professionalism, how to perform well academically and learn more about British culture. Our sessions are very interactive, and our students always have positive feedback as they learn a lot from other cultures too. What I love most here at the ISC is how multicultural our staff are and the friendliness of everyone working on campus. The team looks forward to welcoming you in Huddersfield.”
