University of Huddersfield now a top 50 university
The University of Huddersfield has ranked in the top 50 universities in the 2019 Guardian University Guide. The University has risen to 41st in the table, from 60th place in 2018 and 77th in 2017, meaning it has climbed 36 places in just two years.
The Guardian University Guide is based on a variety of factors, including: teaching satisfaction, course satisfaction, student-staff ratios, career prospects and more.
Huddersfield also ranked highly in the individual subject tables, with six subjects seeing a dramatic increase in places. Hospitality, Event Management and Tourism; Mechanical Engineering; Sociology; Chemistry; Electronic and Electrical Engineering; and Psychology all ranked higher than before in this year’s tables.
The biggest improvements were Psychology, which raised 37 places to reach 42nd on the list, and Mechanical Engineering, which jumped 40 places to 15th place – making it one of the top Psychology degrees in the country.

- 15th: Mechanical Engineering
- 19th: Sociology
- 31st: Politics
- 34th: Chemistry
- 42nd: Electronic and Electrical Engineering
- 42nd: Psychology
